Immediate Care

Blackwood Family Medicine offers urgent and immediate care appointments for our established patients for acute conditions requiring prompt attention but are not severe enough to warrant a trip to a full-scale hospital emergency room.

CALL 9-1-1

Always call 9-1-1 or go directly to a hospital emergency room if you are unstable or have a serious injury or illness.

Blackwood Family Medicine delivers many services to our patients qualifying us as your medical home base.

Although not an urgent care clinic as defined by the Urgent Care Association of America, Blackwood Family Medicine offers the same types of services as other urgent care clinics, only it is strictly for our established patients.

Our Patients Benefit

We are fully aware that you can’t always wait a day or two for medical treatment when you are sick or sustain an injury. A benefit of being a patient of Blackwood Family Medicine is that we offer urgent care hours in conjunction with our normal well-patient appointment hours.

Urgent Care Hours

We set aside a few time slots each day to allow you an opportunity to call in when you are under the weather and request an appointment for the same day.

Unlike a walk-in clinic where anyone can come in off the street for medical services, we only accept established patients in our family urgent care center. This allows us to maintain the close relationship we strive to achieve with our patients and provides you with more personalized care, as all of our patients deserve.

Serious, time-sensitive conditions we do not treat

More serious conditions that we do not treat and require a patient to go directly to the nearest hospital emergency room or call 9-1-1 to receive emergent clinical care include:

  • Head trauma with loss or alteration of consciousness
  • Unexplained confusion
  • Seizure activity
  • Severe dizziness or collapse
  • Weakness, especially on one side–sign of stroke (also facial droop, slurred speech, and arm drift)
  • Chest pain or pressure, left arm tingling, especially if accompanied by nausea, weakness, or sweating for someone over the age of 35 years–signs of heart attack (for women also shoulder or jaw pain)
  • Respiratory distress (including asthma), which means difficulty breathing, choking, or labored breathing
  • Fever in babies less than three months
  • Suspected dislocation, fracture, or broken bone

Most urgent care centers or doctor’s offices are not equipped to handle these more severe conditions. Remember: Call 9-1-1 or go to the emergency room.

Your Closest Urgent Care Center is Blackwood Family Medicine

There may be other urgent care locations near you but do you have an established relationship with their practitioners? Do they have your medical history, medication records, or know your personality? Why go where you are not known?

Call Urgent Care Early

On that day when you need to see your doctor due to sudden illness or an injury, call the main office as early as possible to capture one of our open urgent care appointment slots.

Lab Work or Blood Draws

If your urgent care visit results in you needing lab work or blood tests, we can get them administered or drawn while you are in the office between (7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday). You won’t need to go to a separate lab or facility (unless specified by your insurance), which eases your burden when you don’t feel well. Results are usually received in 24 to 48 hours depending on the test. We contact you immediately regarding any test results.

We do not offer X-ray or imaging services in our office. You will need to go to an imaging center or hospital for these services.

Follow Up Care

Our doctors like to keep track of a patient’s progress as they heal from illness or injury. It is routine practice for patients to return to the office for a follow up visit.

As you check out from your urgent care appointment you will most likely make a follow up appointment at the request of the doctor, who will set the timeframe for your return.

Choice Blackwood Family Medicine for your urgent care needs.
